Media Culture and Media Studies in China

Many media scholars in China have recently observed or agitated for a fundamental change to the study of media in and about China (Liu and Qin (2021), Wu (2016), Chen and Balbi (2016)). In this seminar, students will engage with recent Chinese and Western media scholarship on media history and theory in China and trace some of the field’s developments. The seminar will also feature evening lectures by experts in the field. Attendance at these lectures is compulsory.
