The symposium is inspired by the publication of Media Futures. Theory and Aesthetics, co-authored by Christoph Ernst and Jens Schröter (2021, forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan); and by the translation of Vilém Flusser’s (retro)futuristic What If? 22 Scenarios in Search of Images (foreword by Kenneth Goldsmith, translated by Anke Finger and Kenneth Kronenberg) that is also part of Greenhouse Studios.

How might a post-capitalist society look like? How can we conceive modes of production and coordination that no longer rely on money, markets and the state? Is this possible on a large-scale, not only as small community projects, but society-wide?
 
The interdisciplinary research group „Society after Money“ (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation), whose goal is to build an Agent Based Model of a post-capitalist economy that can serve as a laboratory to foster thinking about a society after money via experimentation, has invited scholars from respective fields to debate the nexus of critique, utopia and simulation.

Serien erfreuen sich immenser Popularität und treiben den Medienwandel vom Fernsehen zum digitalen Streaming voran, kurz: Sie regieren. Zugleich ist für Serien das Modell der Regierung konstitutiv, denn sie lenken ihre Entwicklung, regulieren ihren Fortgang und entwerfen sich als zeitbasierte Steuerungsprozesse. Dominik Maeder analysiert die Kopplung dieser beiden Facetten – das Regieren der Serie und die Serie als Regierung – und stellt heraus: Ihre Popularität erklärt sich nur vor dem Hintergrund jener Steuerungslogiken, die fiktionale wie non-fiktionale Serien ins Werk setzen. Die poetische Signatur der digitalmedialen Transformation der Gegenwart lässt sich damit am Phänomen Serie ablesen.

Im SS 21 und WS 21 / 22 werden Javier Blank und Mariela Natalia Becher aus Brasilien ihre Post-Doc-Forschungsprojekte am Lehrstuhl Schröter durchführen. Javier Blank: Geld, fiktives Kapital und öffentliche Mittel und Mariela N. Becher: Finanzialisierung und soziale Kämpfe.
